One of the most frequently performed operas across the globe, Puccini’s La bohème follows a group of young Parisians–Rodolfo, Mimì, Marcello, Musetta, Schaunard, and Colline–while they struggle for their art and for their love.
Though originally set in the 1830s (and based on Henri Murger’s 1851 novel, Scènes de la vie de bohème), this immortal opera is easily translated into new times and new places. Many will recognize the 1996 musical Rent as being based on Puccini’s La bohème.
Opera Kelowna’s 2017 team is thrilled to bring this production to life: to engage and to play with the performance traditions surrounding this magnificent opus, and to bring the sweeping lines of Puccini’s music to the ears of the Okanagan’s residents.
There are a limited number of VIP tickets (Tier A on the Kelowna Tickets website) available for each show. The VIP experience includes a pre-opera reception at which guests can meet and mingle with Alexandra Babbel, Artistic Director of Opera Kelowna, and Maestro Bernard McDonald, Conductor of Puccini’s La bohème. The VIP lounge is sponsored by Argus Properties and Quails’ Gate Winery. VIP guests will be treated to Quails’ Gate wine, paired with tasty canapés created by award-winning Chef Aman Dosanj (of The Paisley Notebook) before being guided through the stage doors and to their VIP seating; they will then enjoy the show from the best seats in the house, with a program to take home that has been signed by the principal cast members of La bohème!
