Shayanne de Boer was often told as a child that she needed a volume control button. Thankfully, she is now using that voice to her advantage on the stage. She is a current Master of Opera student at University of British Columbia and a graduate of Western University with a Bachelor of Music. Having recently performed Mrs. Fiorentino in Kurt Weill’s Street Scene, and as the Rooster in Janacek’s The Cunning Little Vixen in Vancouver with UBC opera and debuted a mini-opera with Opera from Scratch in Halifax, she loves using her voice in more productive ways today. She is passionate about contemporary music and is a member of the UBC contemporary players whereshe performs music by up-and-coming composers with a varied ensemble. Many years ago, when Shayanne de Boer worked in a bakery, customers often heard her singing while she worked and encouraged her to pursue it further. Today, she’s following that dream.
